Context
A digital nomad seeks places where they can work and live in balance. The Orobie mountains offer nature, connectivity, and new inspiration.
The phenomenon of digital nomadism has grown exponentially (currently there are 40 million digital nomads worldwide, and it is estimated that by 2030 they will reach 60 million), transforming the relationship between work, technology, and mobility.
This evolution brings both opportunities and challenges for local communities and institutions, creating the need for dedicated spaces, services, and support.
Countries like Italy can become attractive to these professionals by combining innovation, sustainability, and quality of life.

Green and Sustainability
An appealing destination for travelers seeking to disconnect, recharge, and rediscover themselves, promoting the concept of WellBeing.

Digital
A smart destination capable of attracting new national and international tourism targets such as digital nomads and related trends, fully interoperable with the TDH (Tourism Digital Hub).

Food & Wine
An authentic and genuine destination attractive to food and wine tourists, thanks to local residents committed to the quality of their strictly zero-kilometer products.

Smart Orobie Project
Manifesto
Project idea
The Smart Orobie project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Tourism, aims to enhance the value of the Orobie mountains in the Bergamo area.
Through the strengthening of infrastructure, the redevelopment of existing facilities, and the synergy between businesses, public bodies, and private entities, the project seeks to attract the growing number of digital nomads throughout the year. This is part of a broader vision aimed at reducing seasonality and transforming the Orobie into a long-stay destination.
Digitalization, sustainability, and food & wine are the main drivers of Smart Orobie, forming the foundation on which the project seeks to highlight the province’s potential, improving its accessibility, usability, and appeal both nationally and internationally.
The program is promoted by GAL Presolana e Laghi Bergamaschi, in collaboration with the implementing partners: GAL Valle Brembana 2020, Orobiestyle, Promoserio, and NT Next – Evolving Communication.
Revitalizing the Orobie Bergamasche area as a whole, positioning it as a green and smart tourist destination.
The Smart Orobie project aims to promote the entire Orobie Bergamasche territory by building on various existing initiatives, which will be systematized, enhanced, and innovated through the development of a comprehensive destination project. This will be anchored in the promotion of integration processes within the tourism supply chain, which in turn will foster the creation of business clusters and encourage collaboration between public and private entities.
