Context

A digital nomad is a remote worker who combines work and a passion for travel, adopting a lifestyle free from traditional geographic constraints.
The phenomenon of digital nomadism has grown exponentially (currently with 40 million users worldwide, estimated to reach 60 million by 2030), transforming the relationship between work, technology, and mobility.
This evolution presents both opportunities and challenges for local communities and institutions, creating the need for dedicated spaces, services, and support.
Countries like Italy can become attractive destinations for these professionals by combining innovation, sustainability, and quality of life.

Manifesto

The Smart Orobie project, funded by the Ministry of Tourism, aims to enhance the territory of the Orobie mountains in the province of Bergamo.

Through the strengthening of infrastructure, the redevelopment of existing structures, and the synergy among businesses, public bodies, and private actors, the project aims to attract the growing number of digital nomads throughout the year. This aligns with a vision focused on de-seasonalizing tourism and transforming the Orobie into a long-stay destination.

Digitization, sustainability, and food & wine are the main drivers of Smart Orobie, and the project focuses on these to highlight the province’s potential by improving accessibility, usability, and appeal on both national and international levels.

The program is promoted by GAL Presolana e Laghi Bergamaschi, in collaboration with implementing partners: GAL Valle Brembana 2020, Orobiestyle, Promoserio, and NT Next – Evolving Communication.
